Russia's own RUBAN

It’s time to speak out about Russian designers. I will leave no comments for the MBFW- Russia this year...... (step it up people!), I will concentrate on those who chose their own path in this fashion season.

In my first fashion week in Moscow, I have been attending RUBAN fashion shows firstly out of curiosity, then out of interest and now knowing that I will see quality designs which will add their mark to the fashion world. My attention was caught by the brave but yet effortless collaboration of shapes and materials. I don’t need to see model doing a headstand to like the show, I like to see the fabric flowing with the model in the rhythm of good music.

Fall- Winter 2014/2015 was the winner for the designer sisters of Ruban.

The organic colours and fabric worked very well together when sharp lines were combined with the soft fur on the pockets or silky ruffles on the skirts. The coat with the emphasised pocked has been seen on all of Moscow’s it-girls, especially this season when the winter has overtaken our spring. Some would get scared of the ruffled numbers, however they are surprisingly easy to wear and can be styled as a casual daily outfit with an oversized top and loafers or be rapidly glamed up by changing shoes to some strappy sandals.

I liked that RUBAN didn't join the mayhem of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia and instead used the fabulous Ritz Carlton Moscow venue for their latest collection.

In my latest attendance to the Fall-Winter 2015/2016 collection I have seen the signature straight cut designs with now flower-frilly details which works in increasing gradient towards the bottom. Even though the collection used a lot of manly pieces of wardrobe, it was very feminine and light. This time instead of combining the pastels, they have done a full look in one colour, which is very classy and may I say that Ralph Lauren timeless option. Nevertheless the designs are still very youthful and will definitely work well with the long legged beauties.

I loved the re-design of the classic men’s blue striped shirt into a very feminine and interesting outfit. I can see these shirts being used with the skinny jeans and Louboutin stilletoes or the ultra comfy boyfriend ripped jeans with trainers, of course with an oversize coat draped over the shoulders. The coats are fabulous! The soft and warm cashmere with feathery and flowery details is a great take on the very popular trend of the moment. No denying that I can smell the Louis Vuitton feather details and Temperley London flower ornaments, but that’s the destiny of current fashion, somewhere or other it will remind you of another designer.

If one has to be picky then I was concerned with the handbag which was carried by the models, it looked very out of place and wrong shape, colour and material. Also the golden gowns made out of organza material.... almost but not quite.... fabric looked a bit too crimpled on the chest which made it look cheap to me.

Otherwise do keep an eye on Alice and Julia RUBAN, if they will stave as brave in their design we will have a good quality label which has already caught attention from  France Carine Roitfeld (ex Vogue France editor).

Below is the video from the catwalk, if for whatever reasons it would't work, you can check it out on my Instagram- Polinochka06
